The Wicked Wit of WSC

WOW.. this an enjoyable book !!! I picked it up this weekend, as I passed thru Barnes&Noble at a a throw away price... to boot !!

Ok ..lets take a quick peek at this guy's devilish humor !!

On being urged by a British diplomat to flatter the free French leader Gen.de Gaulle, he replied " like a female Llama who has just been surprised in her batch: I'll kiss him on both cheeks and if you prefer on all four "

In one of the many documents that come WSC's way, a civil servant had gone out of his way to be grammatically correct, and had clumsily avoided ending a sentence with a preposition. Churchill scribble in the margin: “This is the sort of English up with which I will not put"

This is another classic... As Under-secretary for the Colonies, while in Africa, asked to have a camel from the Camel battery. The Battery officer- deliberately? produced one known to have a bad temper and prone to kicking. Shortly later a Somali boy come running to the officer saying " Effendi Effendi , camel kick Churchill, Churchill kick Camel. Now camel become very good camel" !!

Buy this short book , "The Wicked Wit of Winston Churchill", compiled by Dominique Enright

Iits a keep sake treasure !!
