next big thing for T'rati

I am playing with Hoosgot & DearLazyWeb,  you may see cross pollution of my twits and replies which (may) seem abnormal

there is some co-relations here that seem to be .....interesting.:)-

I just got the feeling that they have raised the bar to the next generation of information seekers.

if you are interested (IMHO), the NEXT BIG THING, just follow both DearLazyweb and Hoosgot

"Google poisoner" - is this a first

This is a first time that Google is being assoicated with "Abetting" crime ?

Google poisoner tried to murder husband

"The jury was told that Knight used the internet search engine Google to find a method of killing her husband,"

I wonder what google will do when the Judge passes a decesion in which the content clearly mentions "Google" as being the primary instrument/method of planning of a murder !!

Will Google now sue the Judge/Attorney for using the brandname Google in a=legal document without consent of their IP Department ??

I don't agre

I sent an email (nice polite one ) to Membership Services, Canadian Society of Customs Brokers. In short, all I was asking them to do was to create a Group within Linkedin. Then I can associate my CCS designate to the Society on linkedin.

Their reply  "
We will consider it when we are reviewing our web strategy for this year."

Hopefully, their  plan efforts for a web strategy does not take too long !

Magda , I'm waiting....

citizen-centric web

"citizen-centric web", where web citizens can come and go to services they choose to use and choose to broker their data to for limited or specific purposes !!

Nice definition.  Read more about it there

Con'grats to Chris for being an advocate of OpenID and May we all live in interesting times

Twitter outage

Unplanned outage is in progress with Twitter. Been trying to catch the chatter on Edwards for over 1.5 hrs  all I get is

"Something is technically wrong.
Thanks for noticing—we're going to fix it up and have things back to normal soon."

Way to go Twitter  !! - Yep we all have noticed. Scalability and incident response of web2.0 is reallly taxing and a near era of response factoring needs to be built. It's not easy

BarCodes and Ad's

Google: "2D barcodes are an especially exciting part of this because they allow readers to "click" on interesting print ads with their cellphones and seamlessly connect to relevant online content.

Joel is kinda reserved in passing judgment on this one .

Why is this important, the world is getting smaller and smaller based on Mobile Technologies. I remember a long time ago I was infected with the RFID virus and noted that in Japan the RFID market space  is researching ways of directly communicating to user community on the fly. That is to the generic user walking down the street, in terms of beeps - like saying "hey you wanted this article/thing/place, its now - just 3 feet away" - concept.

Now we need to extend that concept and if I scan a google barcode on an ad, glance at it and if I like what I read, I can then store in on my device. This then radiates that info to scanners/readers as I move around my pathway of life. When I get beeped its a scanner that is situated close by that reminds me that I flagged the item. Yep, just like playing a blue tooth game :)- .. so moving the product info to be on the wire and into the ether for the consumer. Well, is it intrusive - yeah it could be. but barcode are barcodes just like Sku number which you see at every darn item that you buy.. see the inter- relation now ??

just for phun !!

I have been following the Conversation between Don and Philipp While reading Don' s rebuttal to Phillipp, this statement kinda got my interest.

"My number isn't listed, but that doesn't mean someone can't call me if they can guess it, or brute-force my area code, or otherwise get the number from some other source."

So a little bit of keyboad exercise and I got his number and gave him a call, just to verify that the number that I had was really him. It was.

So in my idiotic analogy mode;

" your private photos are still private" = " My number isn't listed"

and

"xxx" = "doesn't mean someone can't call me if they can guess it"

So what does "xxx" represent - IMHO, thats it's not in private mode anymore when someone obtains's your images. Its like saying I an't listed nowhere, but if think you got me- try giving me call - seemed to be like a challenge ( me bad - sucker for challenges !!) .

Just because customer have put your trust in your application and your service's does not mean that the blackhater out there can't do the obvious. .. Andy Baio already said it best

"This is the kind of security hole that could ruin lives. Don and the SmugMug crew are clued-in guys, so hopefully, they'll realize the gravity of this situation and change it immediately."

However, I must say - Don did a remarkable job in his rebuttal post. The Smug Team were very professional and involved within the conversation,as it unfolded. Kudos' to them !!

Update#1: Don's challenge of "a chance to strike it rich: I’ll give $1,000 USD to anyone who can get a copy of this photo" . Both Tony and Philipp crack it. Don is on pin's and needle's.

best kisses ever !!

Tis to cute..

"On February 4, 2007, Giambrone and a number of other TTC officials participated in a unique live event dubbed TransitCamp. Created by members of the Toronto blogging community, the grassroots meeting melded citizen activism with crowd-sourcing. About 120 attendees used real-time Web 2.0 collaboration tools to engage one another live and in person."

Advice from a Tree

Avi, sent me this  ;

"While visiting Muir Woods near San Francisco we found this poem on a wall at the park cafe."

Advice from a Tree  By Ilan Shamir

Dear Friend,

Stand Tall and Proud
Sink your roots deeply into the Earth
Reflect the light of a greater source
Think long term
Go out on a limb
Remember your place among all living beings

Embrace with joy the changing seasons
For each yields its own abundance:
The Energy and Birth of Spring
The Growth and Contentment of Summer
The Wisdom to let go of leaves in the Fall
The Rest and Quiet Renewal of Winter

Feel the wind and the sun
And delight in their presence
Look up at the moon that shines down upon you
And the mystery of the stars at night.
Seek nourishment from the good things in life
Simple pleasures
Earth, fresh air, light

Be content with your natural beauty
Drink plenty of water
Let your limbs sway and dance in the breezes
Be flexible
Remember your roots

FM Media valued at $100 Million ? maybe !!!

Not sure who in TechCrunch is doing their research before blogging  But I would certainly like to know the factiods on  which company this is !!

"One investor, we have learned, put a $100 million buyout offer on the table for the entire company, which FM Publishing declined."

John B , just got his Series A funding in early 2005 with revenues of $4.5 million in 2006, its first year in operation. Projections for 2007 were $30 million in sales and "several million dollars" in profit."

Does not make sense for a firm Offer of $100Million for FM Media.  Secondly the network is highly dependent on Blog's . However the blogosphere is actually contracting and not expanding. So its becoming  a diminishing market.  Maybe  FM really did well and YR07 revenue's went thru the roof and they made about $40-50Million. Then John declining would make sense, as he can still milk the blogosphere. His venture can  reposition the product and see where the product is positioned and if it is possible to attract new segments. And that could be his strategy . Embedded Ad's in YouTube ???

recession - think again !!

This is one of the best comments that I have seen on recession. A must read based on Scoble's What if your laid ..hmmm laid off post

"Anyone who says - go to elance, freelance, jack in the pants is an IDIOT…all the russians, chinese, indians (from india) with MORE experience than you work on projects for NEXT TO NOTHING. How are you planning to pay your mortgage on 10 projects a month *(if you can do that many) that only pay $250 each?"

Mashable does no research before blogging ?

This was published on JAn 17th thru FD List.

"We were able to find some permanent XSS vectors in dailymotion.com: videos have a 'Title' field, which is not properly filtered and returned to user in certain conditions. So it becomes possible to execute malicious script content when user is searching for a video to add to his mood. You may also test it by entering word 'saugumas' in dailymotion.com video search field.

Screenshots are available here: http://www.critical.lt/?opinions/show/1470"

However MAshable now blogs about this and points to Aviv's post.  But should not the mashable crew do a little bit more research to figure out who really cut the vectors ?

For the record , it was Miroslav Luńćinskij, of  Critical Security in Lithuania who  pwned Skype !!

Footnote to Mashable crew : for some reason your comments page hates me "Invalid email/page link or password." :(-

Scary Times V2.0

All over the web, there is chatter of big Cuts to happen in the IT world. Late last year I was let go as a project manager. Still looking for a job - its tough !!

This morning I hear chatter that at Yahoo Inc., 1500-2,500 jobs that may be eliminated in the next two weeks. This works out too about 10-15% of their net net total talent capital. The company has a total of about 12,000 employees.

More info can be found at Silicon Valley Insider. Henry has the scoop !!

So what does this mean for the global economy in terms of talent capital and retention? With a recession looming ahead , I think there is really troubled waters ahead for the IT industry. This is the beginning of a bubble burst of Web2.0 !! Today's trading for ticker YHOO

Latina/o youth and Toronto public schools

This is interesting tidbit about schools  in Toronto  and the Latino youth !!

"Why do 40% of Latino/a youth not complete high schol in Toronto public schools? What can b done about it?

According to a recent study coordinated by Rob Brown of the Toronto District School Board (TDSB), approximately 20% of students who start grade 9 do not complete high school four years later. Among students who speak Spanish, the non-completion rate of is almost double. This means that approximately 40% of young Latina/o students are not completing high school, that is, leaving school without graduating.

We believe that this issue is of crucial importance to our community. For this reason, we are inviting students, parents, teachers, educators and all concerned to share with us your views on the following questions:

1) Why are Latina/o students twice as likely to leave school than their peers?

2) What can be done -and/or is being done- to address this situation?"

If you would like to share your views please write a text of approximately 600 to 1,000 words about one of the two questions and submit it by email before January 30, 2008. If you wish to address the two questions, please feel free to send two documents, one for each question. A jury of community members will read all submissions.

Selected contributions will be included in a publication to be released in 2008. Contributions can be submitted in Spanish, English or Portuguese, and can be submitted by an individual or by a group.

This call is open to all people who are willing to participate, without any restrictions such as age, nationality, birthplace, migratory status, place of residence, etc.

Successful Innovation:The Intersection of Theory and Practice

"Successful innovation within a corporate setting is difficult to achieve on a number of levels. First, innovation itself is much more art than science, random in some sense. But it also can be directed and channeled by the innovator by using past experience to guide thinking about the future, by knowing how and when to ask the right questions, and by trusting their instinct when interpreting and synthesizing data. Innovators and their managers must also recognize that failure is to be learned from, not punished." - Summary

this is a good read at HBS

Triggit is now moving to live status. I initally pentested .Seems to be kewl app to drag and drop into your blog or webpages. Not tested with FB or other social sites. IF that works then they need to have a FB mode drag and drop for pictures etc etc.. not really sure how the intergration will work, but imagine the velocity within the FB arena ?

Scrabulous Strike !!

"Game companies Hasbro, which distributes Scrabble in North America, and Mattel, which is responsible for its overseas trademarks, have reportedly asked Facebook to remove the game from its application directory. And you can tell it's a serious legal matter because nobody's talking." - [ Via ]

This is crazy why would a gaming company want to take down a online game of thier's. Should not they be thankful to Jayant and Rajat Agarwalla, who founded Scrabulous.com in 2006. It's  brought life back into this game. !!

I am routing that Hasbro actually buys them out and hire's them to keep the program running in the FB envoirnment. Off course they still get their $$ via ad serving !
